Culinary Club is a fun way for students to explore food, field trips, and fun with friends at school. The purpose of this club is to offer 6-7-8th grade students an introduction to culinary where they can enjoy food in a fun environment. In the Fall, WMS will have a commercial kitchen and 6-7-8th grade culinary classes. Until then, the club will be a place to gain interest and exposure to culinary while having a hands-on experience creating different foods.
All students are invited to join the Culinary Club and will get points for attendance. Club members will have a higher chance of acceptance into the 2019-2020 “Farm to Table” culinary class.
Meetings are held once weekly during FLEX with Mrs. Lands in room K114. There is ONE Culinary Club, but due to overwhelming interest in the club and the desire to accommodate as many students as possible, there will be a Monday Club, Tuesday Club, Thursday Club, and Friday Club, with 20 students in each group totaling 80 students overall. Students will sign up for the day of the week club that they want to join and will attend 7 weekly meetings on their chosen day of the week until the end of the year.
Due to space constraints, only 20 students will be allowed at each meeting (80 students total). Students will need to commit to the day of the week that they will attend club meetings. Sign-ups took place Tuesday, April 2 online. Students who signed up after the first 80 students were added to a waiting list. Since sign-ups are complete, new members will not be considered unless and until space opens.
Official Culinary Club meetings will begin the week of April 8th. Students will receive a FLEX pass to attend their day of the week weekly meeting. If a student receives a request from an academic teacher during FLEX, they must attend the academic request and will forfeit the club meeting that week. Club meetings cannot be made up at another session. This is a motivator for students to keep current in their classes and with their school work. They can resume club meetings the following week.
Select students will participate in fundraising events and will attend field trips to prepare for those events. Those positions will be announced and interested students will apply and interview to be a volunteer. Read more HERE.
Club members will vote on different recipes to create the weekly menu. Each day of the week club will do the same recipe so every meeting is equal and every week students will be hands-on to experiment with simple recipes and taste their creations. You can see the weekly schedule HERE.
